The Technical Superintendent is responsible for representing the owner's interests across assigned vessels by working with external technical managers and vessel crews to ensure high standards of machinery maintenance, minimize downtime, stay within budget, and protect the asset’s value. This includes overseeing daily operations, maintenance, budgeting, and OPEX, along with making two visits per year to the vessels. The role requires 2-4 months of travel annually and managing 8-9 vessels.
Experience/Skills:
- 5+ years of sailing experience on tankers or chemical vessels.
- At least one year as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer, with Class 1 certification.
- Shore experience preferred.
- Knowledge of ISM/ISPS codes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vessel Maintenance: Ensure maintenance is carried out per the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) to prevent breakdowns.
- Spare Parts & Purchases: Review and approve purchase orders for expensive spare parts.
- Technical Reports: Assess technical reports from vessels for compliance and identify issues.
- Lubricants & Bunkers: Monitor oil and bunker consumption, reviewing analysis reports for efficiency.
- Speed & Consumption: Track vessel speed and consumption data to assess performance.
- EGCS Maintenance: Oversee the operation and maintenance of the Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS).
- Crew Changes: Review engineer crew changes and verify qualifications.
- Q88 Compliance: Ensure Q88 details are maintained accurately.
- Budget & OPEX: Approve the technical aspects of budgets, monitor OPEX, and authorize additional expenditures.
- Incident Response: Manage technical incidents, review responses, and implement corrective actions.
- Audits: Conduct bi-annual maintenance audits and participate in the Technical Managers Audit.
- New Builds & Dry Docks: Oversee pre-delivery budgets for new builds, review sea trials, and manage drydock scope, budget, and progress.
