Position: Technical Superintendent
Reporting to: Technical Manager
As a motivated individual eager to grow in an international group, you will work closely with your manager and liaise daily with vessels and colleagues from various global locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and control the ship’s technical maintenance and certification for assigned vessels.
- Manage the vessel expenses budget allocated to your role.
- Check the status of the PMS system, ensuring planned maintenance is up to date and scheduling works on a monthly basis.
- Report any contingency, vessel structural or machinery failures, which may lead to hazardous situations for the crew, the vessel, or its cargo to the Senior Superintendent and Technical Manager.
- Promptly report any major unbudgeted expenses.
- Coordinate and schedule vessel class/statutory inspections.
- Arrange, follow up, and report technical support for specialized engineers, if necessary, in consultation with the Senior Superintendent.
- Plan and report, in cooperation with the vessel crew, corrective repairs for deficiencies, failures, and non-conformities identified during vessel inspections.
- Participate in the Emergency Group Ashore.
- Examine machinery performance and health status, report any warnings, and take appropriate action in consultation with the Senior Superintendent.
- Review bunker/lube oil analysis, highlight non-conformities, and provide recommendations in consultation with the Senior Superintendent.
- Conduct onboard vessel inspections, review completed works, examine vessel conditions, and report any deficiencies and required actions.
- Review the vessel class status with the Technical Manager at each new entry.
- Conduct preliminary reviews of drydock machinery specifications related to internal/external engine room machinery, in consultation with the Senior Superintendent. Arrange and report full drydock specifications and preliminary tender comparisons.
- Supervise and report on drydocking works and substantial repairs, ensuring compliance with approved specifications, verifying work reliability, reviewing measurements/records, job reports, and pro-forma invoices.
- Examine and approve vessel requests for services or materials and provide service reports.
- Evaluate and report on crew performance as per company policy.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain the following documentation in accordance with company procedures:
- Record of maintenance and works carried out.
- Track record of deficiencies, failures, and non-conformity follow-ups.
- Updated list of work to be done.
- Onboard Superintendent inspection reports.
- Updated list of vessel coating assessments for cargo, ballast, and void compartments.
- Reports and records of class-related activities.
- Updated Class survey status and Flag Administration certificates status.
- Analysis reports.
- Records of drydocking works and measurements.
- Service reports.
- Updated vessel drawings and equipment maker instructions.
- Updated ship certificates.
Authority:
You are authorized to:
- Inspect the vessel, carry out necessary checks and testing.
- Assign tasks to officers and the Master for activities to be undertaken by the crew during drydock.
- Assign tasks to the Master/Chief Engineer for vessel operations.
- Approve vessel cash expenses for prompt repairs or purchases.
- Commit with the Master for crew bonuses for specific extraordinary tasks.
Requirements & Work Experience:
- 1 years of experience as a Chief Engineer and 2 years as an Superintendent on shore handling tanker vessel.
- MEO Class 1 COC.
- 2 years of documented experience as a superintendent in a reputable shipping company
