The technical superintendent is accountable for the following:
- Ensuring that machineries on board are well maintained by crew and PMS schedules are duly followed.
- Ensuring vessels all certification are always up to date.
- Monitor and manage operating costs within planned budget.
- Attend the vessels during Surveys as required.
- Vessel performance analysis basis data uploaded and shared by vessel on regular basis
- Maintaining vessel incident free.
- Maintaining the asset value.
- Timely essential supplies of Stores/spares/services to vessel.
- Maintain vessels to achieve good results in third party inspection.
- Meet the stipulated budget without compromising safe operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise all technical management activities for assigned vessels.
- Coordinate with the surveys and certifications team to ensure class and certifications regulatory requirements are complied with from to time.
- Supervise contractors’ repair/maintenance of vessels.
- Formulate long term maintenance plan and ensure that the maintenance planning, execution and control is carried out according to company standards. Ensure conformance to planned maintenance system.
- Devise plans and monitor vessel dry docking, repairs and survey when required and determine repair specifications for dry docking and maintenance.
- Provide and compile documented reports upon completion of dry docking, including summaries of works performed, operational budgets, and actual expenditures.
- Communicate and periodically report to vessels owners about vessel performance, maintenance, costing etc.
- Maintain regular communication with CE & master for smooth operation of the vessel.
- Keep the vessel updated with latest circulars and technical bulletins from equipment makers and subsequent follow up.
- Send detailed advice on fuel analysis reports and Lube oil analysis reports once received from the laboratories.
- Monitor vessel performance trends, implementing timely remedial actions where required.
- Carry out scheduled vessel inspections, capture defects and appraise senior management of the vessel condition and preparation of vessel inspection reports within the timelines.
- Follow up on vessel inspection reports to close out captured defects and updating the same in the system.
- Accident and incident investigations, risk analysis and mitigation, identifying, implementing and monitoring effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
- Initiating MOC, follow up and close the MOC for each critical tacks, vessel Modifications, New engineering installations after detailed risk assessment etc.
- Responsible for implementation of Regulatory compliance on assigned vessels including Safety and Environmental Protection, Domestic and International Law, Regulation Policies, procedures and their subsequent planned maintenance.
- Supporting in budgeting preparation and ensuring cost control measures on ship spares and docking requirements as per the budget. Gather all required details for annual budget preparations.
- Direct & monitor the vessel stocking levels with respect to regular and critical spares.
- Arrange stores, spares and arranging workshop assistance for the vessels and collaborate with Purchase team for the same
- Monitor and Approve purchase orders for stores, spares, repairs and survey within financial limit of authority.
- Handle queries pertaining to non-budgetary expenses incurred as part of the maintenance activities.
- Monitor and guide the vessel technical executive and the technical assistant on procurement matters and technical services.
- Plays a critical role in providing assistance in emergency response situations like causalities and accidents, directly or through crisis control room.
- Assist sourcing & manning department in selection of management level officers.
- Performs other position related duties as specified by management.
- Supervise, monitor and guide team members as well as provide timely feedback for performance improvement.
- Remotely monitor the vessel performance thru Smartship and guide the vessels time to time.
- Regularly updating the vessel performance, vessel condition, budget variance to the Technical manager.
Decision Making:
Non-Financial: (Headcount / Vendors / Processes etc.)
- Selection of vendors basis companies’ preferred vendors’ list, expertise of the vendor in some special area.
- Takes decisions during emergency or crisis like causalities or accidents in consultation with fleet managers.
- Interviewing & selection of engineer officers.
Financial: (Budget / Revenue / Cost)
- Approves vessel orders for stores, spares, repairs and surveys within approved limit of authority set by owner In case of deviation, seeks approval from technical manager.
- Provides input for the budget.
Educational Background and Work Experience:
- MEO Class I – COC
- Should have sailed as a Chief engineer on ocean going vessels for at least in the type of vessel he is managing
- Good knowledge in Microsoft Office
